Dean Ornish is Best Diet for Heart Health

My dad went on the Dean Ornish heart disease reversal program and I went on the Dean Ornish heart disease prevention program.  You can read about our story.

The Dean Ornish program has just been rated the best diet for heart health.  It has worked for me and I'm now running a marathon a month to help others prevent heart disease.

Fastest 7 Miler in Marathon Training Week 11

Along_the_ohio_river

Today I ran my fastest 7 miles of this training year. I’m less than two weeks out from the Portland Marathon!  I felt strong and could have run faster, but paced myself with the pace I want to run for the Portland Marathon.  You can read the stats from today further down.

I was up at 5 AM after a rather restless night.  I changed my breakfast menu after getting hungry last week after 5 miles.  The menu this morning worked better and was probably what led to me feeling stronger.  My menu this morning was:

• 2 cups of coffee with Splenda.
• Approximately 3 ounces of dark chocolate
• 1 Bagel with peanut butter.  The bagel was for the carbs and the peanut butter for the protein.
• 1 Banana for the potassium
• 1 cup orange juice for the potassium
• 1 Emergen-C Vitamin Mix

Why am I doing what I'm doing? I’m running marathons to help others by raising $10,000 for the American Heart Association (AHA).

Marathons (26.2 miles) along the way that I will run are:
• 10/7/2007 - Portland Marathon, Portland, Oregon
• 11/4/2007 - Marshall University Marathon, Huntington, West Virginia
• 12/9/2007 - Wellstone's Dallas White Rock Marathon, Dallas, Texas
• More to be announced if needed

Will you help me help others by clicking below and making a donation directly to the AHA?  As you can see, I have a long way to go yet and I can't stop running until I reach the goal!  There are too many lives hanging in the balance.

11 – 9/24/07       7 miles            1:13:22    175                 1064

I went the wrong way on my weight this week.  It could have been the whopper at mile 19.5 during my long run last week.  Or it could have been that huge plate of chicken chop suey and steamed rice I had for lunch yesterday.  Whatever the reason, I will be at my goal weight of 170 for the Portland Marathon in two weeks.  Stay tuned.

Keep pressing toward the finish line!

P.S.  Training for a marathon is much like our Christ following journey.  The Apostle Paul talked about it.  (1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NIV)  "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. {25} Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. {26} Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. {27} No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize."

Awesome Time at LGF Brunch

We had an awesome time during the quarterly LGF brunch at our new revolotionary church plant in Salem, Oregon today.  Check out the pics and videos.

Lorena Rodriguez was our guest.  Lorena is the Community School Outreach Coordinator for the Salem/ Keizer Public Schools and works at Stephens Middle School where we rent for our LGF Sunday Service and LGF Wednesday FREE meal and Bible Study that we offer to our city of Salem, Oregon.

Becky interviewed Lorena as we endeavor to partner with the school to make a difference.

LGF Operation Blessing

LGFers brought school supplies to help keep the supply room at Stephens Middle School supplied this year so that no one will go without.

Caught Some girls rocking together on our closing song

Bandamania!

I kept up my bandamania as I'm convinced that we can make a difference in poverty in our day.

Our next LGF Brunch will be our Christmas Brunch on December 23, 2007. Angel Tree families will be our guest and we will be highlighting a very unique point of need ministry.

Check out past brunches at the LGF Brunch Page.

Best Crab Cakes EVER!

I just got finished eating the best crab cakes in my life!  Becky made them from the crabs we caught yesterday over on the coast.  It was a really great meal: crab cakes made with fresh crab, a baked Sweet Potatoe and steamed brocolli.

God has blessed me with a wife that is a wonderful cook!
